Guardians, Protectors, Witches. The titles vary species to species, but they all mean the same thing: an individual with a Spark of power and a purpose. Every Spark has an ignition point where their power goes from everyday useful to world-changing strength. Some Witches die in their spark-point.

One made a witch. One born a witch. Nadia and Aidan lead parallel lives. Nadia hides from her family of anti-witch activists. When she gained her power from a dying writer witch, she knew she would never be safe at home. Aidan, born a rare anchor witch, hides his power from almost everyone. Many would kill for his abilities. As their world descends into war, all they want is to lead ordinary lives. But fate has a way of making people come together. And destiny has a way of changing everything. 

In an alternate world where about half the population possess "talents" that give the individual unique abilities, a series of terror attacks on the New Republic threaten the country with war in a time of long peace. Anji and Aurora lead parallel lives: both possess the rare Linguist talent and use it to search for answers to who is behind the recent attacks. Without those answers the Republic could go to war. A war that could end their country for good.
